Descent
Video Installation
in collaboration with Jody Boyer
2003
Description:
In the installation Descent a slow moving motor rotates a cinematic
image sequence of a plane descending at low level over Los Angeles
California. An antiquated video camera is positioned to capture the
changing images and transfers this data to a video projector.
The still image is hence translated into a fractured surveillance
of the plane’s slow and jarred descent. The continued repetition of
the plane’s descent never culminates in its landing. The mechanized
apparatus of surveillance never brings us to a conclusion, instead
it maintains a constant level of anticipation and anxiety of the
forthcoming event, much like the current media environment that we
are exposed to in our everyday post 9/11 lives.
